||History

Listed in the National Register of Historic Places and the resting place of prominent residents including Robert Lockwood and Florence H Oldenburg (many more). “Riverside Cemetery was founded in 1876 among the tranquil country farms west of the Cuyahoga River. The outstanding reputation which Riverside Cemetery has developed over its 140 years of service has been a great source of comfort and reassurance to the thousands of persons we have been privileged to serve and continues to earn the cemetery many compliments” (riversidecemeterycleveland.org). The William R. Halley Chapel was built in 1876 and features a south side medallion – a bird with outstretched wings, emblematic of the departing spirit as well as a north side medallion – a reproduction of one by Brevet found in the Bere la Chaise Cemetery in Paris enjoining all who pass by to be Silent.
