Location: 2800 Hayes Dr, Willoughby Hills, Oh 44094

Distance: Approximately 20 miles/23 minutes from Cleveland

|Beautiful location – some locals are NOT car friendly! Be advised unauthorized vehicles are not permitted on the grounds but you can still get some nice shots from a distance with the location in the backdrop. There is heavy foot traffic at this location as walking trails surround the area and the parking lot area can become full during peak times (weekends). This is a photographer friendly location and a popular stop for visitors and visionaries alike. Keep in mind you’ll likely have a lot of editing to do with removing people from your shots as with some of the other locations this is a tourist attraction. Be respectful of the site – it is a historical location! Be mindful of the pedestrian traffic rolling into the site as bicyclists do frequent the roadways leading into the area (the curvy roads on the route in will make you want to have some fun, but you never know what’s on the other side!). Disclaimer: If you call the park administrative office they may give authorization for a special event/photoshoot and facilitate that appropriately – and of course do your research for special occasions! Free from dusk to dawn otherwise. https://www.clevelandmetroparks.com/parks/visit/parks/north-chagrin-reservation/squire-s-castle

||History

The gatehouse is modeled after German and English baronial castles and after retiring from Standard Oil, Squire sold the property in 1922 to tour Europe and further returned to nestle into a mansion on the City of Wickliffe’s Millionaire’s Row. The Cleveland Metroparks acquired the property which eventually became part of the North Chagrin Reservation. “As it was” the Castle remains intact structurally and you will find the hollowed grounds nothing short of amazing with a bit of imagination into what once was.
